We work for a more circular construction in collaboration with the entire construction industry and with a focus on documentation for use in, for example, DGNB and Nordic Ecolabel construction. At Blue Phoenix you always get concrete figures for the recycling of your construction waste.
We collaborate with, among others, ROCKWOOL and Reiling on industrial partnerships for the recycling of construction waste into new products.
Together with ROCKWOOL, the construction sector and more than 60 of the country's municipalities, we recycle around 12.000 tonnes of used stone wool into new ROCKWOOL insulation products via the return scheme ©Rockcycle. The return scheme can secure DGNB points and in 2022 was named the best circular business solution at the SDG Tech Awards.
Together with Tarpaper Recycling, we recycle roofing felt to produce new roofing felt and asphalt. Tarpaper Recycling is CE-certified.
Together with partners such as NCC and Colas, Blue Phoenix ensures that large parts of the asphalt chips we receive are recycled into new asphalt. In addition we sell large quantities of crushed asphalt as a recovery material for use in construction and civil engineering projects as a replacement for virgin natural materials. Most recently, we at Blue Phoenix have used asphalt with our own 50% recycled asphalt to pave our new 51.000 m2 reception facility in Nordhavnen, Copenhagen.
We receive large amounts of concrete waste at our facilities every year. The vast majority of the concrete is crushed and used in the form of recovery in new construction projects as a replacement for virgin natural materials, e.g. stabilized gravel. However, we are working to process more and more concrete for recycling and to increase the relatively small percentage that is now recycled for concrete aggregate in the production of new concrete products.
Virtually 100% of the iron and metal we manage to extract from our customers' waste fractions, such as concrete, is sent for recycling. This corresponds to around 6.800 tons per year, which are processed for recycling in collaboration with metal companies.
We receive waste wood in various classes, from contaminated to clean construction wood. For A1 wood, the pure wood, we recycle close to 100% for new chipboards in collaboration with manufacturers in the country and abroad. The really good and construction-friendly clean wood is also reused directly as architect-designed recycling sheds together with the company Next.
For the so-called A2 wood, building wood, we recycle approx. 80% for new chipboards with manufacturers. The safety-impregnated wood, A4, is sent primarily for energy utilization by energy companies, while 17% of this type of wood waste is recycled into new wood products.
Hard plastics such as PV pipes and PP-PE are being recycled on a large scale in collaboration with partners in the plastics industry. In fact, we recycle up to 90% of the PVC plastic that we currently receive at our facility. Blue Phoenix is working with the plastics industry to sort out and process more and more types of plastic for recycling and recovery, and we expect to have figures ready for this new plastic effort in early 2024.
Together with partners such as Reiling Glasrecycling Danmark, we recycle large quantities of the glass waste that we receive from our customers. We are also participating in a larger pilot project together with NCC and Aarhus Municipality, where we are working to ensure that glass waste that is not suitable for recycling can be used as a material in asphalt, as a substitute for granite shards, so-called "glass asphalt".
Soon you will be able to download our new waste catalog 2026 with descriptions of recycling solutions for our primary fractions within construction and demolition waste.
